SIBUJAYA: With the year coming to a close, the Sibu Jaya township has notched up yet another award.

This time it is for Best Residential Development for its Pearl Avenue Residential Homes at the Malaysian leg of the South-East Asia Property Awards, which was held in Kuala Lumpur recently.

This is the second award the township has received in recent years. It had previously received the Planning Excellence title, which was awarded by the Malaysian Institute of Planners to Sibu Jaya for its comprehensive master plan.

At the South-East Asia Property Awards, Sibu Jaya walked away with the Highly Commended Certificate for the Pearl Avenue homes.

Developer Distrepark Sdn Bhd – was overjoyed with the award.

According to its assistant general manager Lim Pooi Siang, the award will serve to spur the township to even greater heights.

“We are indeed blessed to have the guidance and support of Housing Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg, the Sibu Rural District Council, local leaders and the community working together with us as a team,” Lim said.

The township, which has a current population of around 28,000 people, has been developing rapidly over the last five years.

Earlier this year, 60 units of its shophouses were sold out within two days of opening. This was followed by the brisk sales of another 54 units in July.

At the rate it is going, the 485.6ha Sibu Jaya township looks set to be a major township that may equal the old Sibu town within the next 10 years.
