SIBU: An ongoing property roadshow at the Sibu Airport is drawing keen attention from people heading back for Gawai celebration.

Among them wer three visitors from China. The Chinese trio, who spent 10 days travelling to various towns in Sarawak were on their homeward bound journey when they chanced upon the pretty Iban lasses from SibuJaya in traditional costumes and sought to have their photographs taken.

As the visitors were on a business trip, chancing upon the Iban lasses in traditional costume was a nice send-off for them.

Other visitors thronging the Sibu Airport also said it was a pleasant surprise to find women in traditional costumes at the departure and arrival halls.

Many of them have been away from home for quite some time and only return once a year for Gawai.

The women were sales personnel of a booth showcasing new development in Sibujaya.

Eunice Tadom, who is with Distrepark Sdn Bhd – the developer of SibuJaya – said with Gawai so near, they decided to add to the festive mood by wearing traditional attire.

“It’s an attractive and creative way to promote our SibuJaya township and drum up the festive mood,” she said.

“People from different races and towns, and especially those from peninsular Malaysia, have been asking to have their photos taken with us and we’re only too happy to oblige, the sales executive said.

Eunice, who stays and works in SibuJaya, said the township had grown by leaps and bounds since she first moved there from Durin with her parents.

“I never thought I’ll work in SibuJaya but I am glad I do. It’s such a young and vibrant township,” she said.

“With 90% financing, you only need RM1,800 to own a home at our Coral Avenue,” she added.
